Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate form of counseling that helps children express their thoughts and feelings through play rather than words alone. Because children often don’t yet have the language to fully explain what they’re experiencing, play becomes their natural way of communicating. In a safe, supportive environment, a trained therapist uses toys, games, and creative activities to help children process emotions, build coping skills, and work through challenges such as anxiety, behavioral concerns, trauma, or life changes. Play therapy can be adapted for different ages and may include parent involvement when helpful. Over time, children often show improved emotional regulation, stronger problem-solving skills, and healthier ways of relating to others.
